THE Royal Marines provided a nail-biter against a Gibraltar Select XV, coming from behind to draw 21-21 at the Victoria Stadium.
After trailing 21-0 with just 15 minutes left, the Marines producing a stunning fightback.
Two converted tries from GRFU Director of Rugby Mike Milward and a further from winger Jonny Reyes saw Gibraltar race into a 21-0 lead.
However, a raft of injuries for Gibraltar coupled with three converted tries saw the Marines level the scores with the final kick of the game.
GRFU’s Jack Milner said: "The Marines produced a terrific comeback to claim a deserved draw on Saturday but injuries took their toll on Gibraltar with no fewer than six players taken off during the 80 minutes.”
Before the main event the Gibraltar vets were soundly beaten 34-7 by the Royal Marine Vets.
In a curtain-raiser to the main match the Young Gibraltar Boys and Girls took on a good quality Spanish club in three age groups - Under 10s, Under12s and Under 14s
Gibraltar's attentions now turn to the trip to Hungary for a huge opportunity for the GRFU to bolster their claim for international status.
