THE new-look two-day MTV Gibraltar Calling Festival had its citics but the thousands who enjoyed the weekend of acts on the Main and Classic Stages were left in no doubt that this event was a fantastic party.
The stellar line-up contained a great combination of old and new talent with local bands including, After Hours, Come in Leon and the Layla Rose Band all getting their opportunity early on day one.
In blistering heat in the shadow of The Rock the legendary Village People and the stylish Black Box performed on the Classic stage while the main stage saw impressive performances from The Amazons and Years & Years but it was headliner Ricky Martin who stole the Saturday show with a fantastic and energetic performance of a variety of famous hits from this iconic superstar.
Sunday’s Classic Stage took us back to another era with great sets from Bananarama who have been rocking it for over 30 years and still hold the record for the all-female group with the most chart entries in the world.
Next up was Midge Ure who has been around the pop scene even longer and penned the legendary charity classic, ‘Do they know its Christmas’.
On the Main Stage Clean Bandit and the hugely popular Kaiser Chiefs were warming everyone up for the main event. Before that Tinie Tempah put on a show confirming his status as one of the leading UK rappers.
Then it was time to greet the evergreen Craig David who performed some great classics in immaculate style. It was left to Fatboy Slim to close a memorable two-day festival of music in the style that has seen him at the top of his game for more than two decades.
