TWO important changes have been introduced to ensure safer navigation within Gibraltar waters.
The first broadens the definition of a speed boat to include jetskis to make it clear that a person under the age of 18 years is not permitted to navigate a personal watercraft unless otherwise authorised.
A further revision states that any mechanically driven, or any other vessel that is over six metres in length must now be covered by an insurance of at least third party risk. Owners are being given three months’ grace to get that policy in place.
The changes have come about due to the large increase in vessels using Gibraltar waters due in part to the completion of the Mid-Harbour small boats marina.
