NOT content with poisoning the EU Commission with its unfounded rhetoric about Gibraltar, Spain continues to flout The Rock’s legal right to its waters.
Another Spanish warship has made an aggressive and dangerous clash with a Royal Navy patrol boat that challenged it inside British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.
It has been confirmed that the 1200-ton Centinela ignored radio calls and when challenged deliberately altered course and only narrowly avoided a collision with the Royal Navy vessel. The incident comes shortly before the Queen hosts Spanish King Felipe and his wife Letizia for an official State visit.
Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell MP has called for the visit to be cancelled. He said: “The people of Gibraltar are rightly nervous. They break the rules while we, in turn, welcome the King and Queen of Spain for a State visit. What kind of message is that for the people of Gibraltar?”
Chief Minister angrily commented: “These silly but dangerous manoeuvres by a supposed NATO ally are operationally irresponsible, legally irrelevant and politically inopportune.
“They do nothing to create a positive environment for mutual co-operation and instead hark back to another century.”
