OCEAN Village was transformed into a vibrant display of colour with an exhilarating blend of aromas as it hosted its first ever Festival of Flavours.
It provided an opportunity for the Village eateries to invite connoisseurs of good food to try out their menus and to show off their signature dishes in live cooking demonstrations times throughout the weekend.
Members of the public were spoilt for choice as the talented heads chefs got to work on creating exciting tasty food options against the stunning backdrop of Ocean Village Marina and the magnificent Sunborn floating hotel and casino.
The international mouth watering dishes included Indian, Japanese fusion, Spanish, Italian and Latin American, amongst others.
On hand to inform and keep the action flowing were recently crowned Mr Gibraltar, Sean Vincent Acris, and GBC news presenter Katy Docker. A touch of glamour was assured with the appearance of the 2017 Mrs Gibraltar contestants and vocalist Julia Martin keeping everyone entertained with her great rock numbers.
In addition to the main culinary demonstrations taking place on Leisure Island, market stalls on the promenade offered an array of tasty treats, including gourmet Iberico ham, chorizos and cheese selections from Beher.
There were flavoured teas and exotic spices from Serene Tea, preserves, Greek baked goodies, sweeties and homemade cheese from Binky’s Kitchen, chutney from Little Bay Indian and other sweet and savoury surprises.
The weekend Festival of Foods was the start of a two-week long Tapas Route, always so popular in Spain for people to enjoy finger foods at a variety of restaurants. And the added bonus for this one is that all 11 participating restaurants were all within touching distance of each other.
Interested parties were invited to pick up their ‘Tapas Passport’ from any of the venues on the trial: Benjamin’s Gourmet Foods, Grand Shanghai, The Ivy, Little Bay, Wagamama, The Cuban, Bridge Bar & Grill, O’Reilly’s, The Arena, Sunborn and La Sala.
